Spain is one of the main producers of marble, with most of the deposits concentrated in the provinces of the Mediterranean arc (Murcia, Almeria and Alicante). Natural stone production – which also includes marble – grew last year to 1.7 billion euros. In general, during the last decades, the evolution of the sector has been remarkable, increasing its export capacity (12% in the last year). Countries such as France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, among others, have found in the national natural stone a quality product that they acquire in large quantities to use in different projects, both public and private (Data ‘Mining Statistics’, M. Ecological Transition).

Precisely, the track record of URBAS in large infrastructure projects, and its international positioning in the main destination countries of Spanish exports will be levers to increase the capacity for expansion and commercial growth of the Mula deposit, and strengthen its positioning in markets such as LATAM, the Middle East and, of course, in Spain and Portugal.

In parallel, the natural stone sector is of great importance for Murcia as an economic engine and this project is a great industrial opportunity for URBAS that will also mean the creation of more than 100 direct and indirect jobs.

The Mula quarry produces up to five different types of marble. Mármol beige Serpiente’ and ‘Mármol Bronce’ are the two varieties with the highest turnover and have been installed in large projects such as Terminal 1 of Madrid Airport, Alicante Airport, the City of Justice in Alicante, ministries, universities, hospitals, shopping centers, urban roads… precisely because of their hardness, shine and elegance and also because of the low cost of cleaning and maintenance.
